The fourteenth pension, although initially intended to be a one-off financial support for seniors, was included in the regular calendar of benefit payments. It was the PiS government that decided on permanent payments of the “fourteenth pension”, but after the change of government, the current administration assured that retirees will also receive this additional support in 2024. The additional benefit, the “fourteenth pension”, is equivalent to the amount of the minimum pension. This year, after the March indexation, its amount was PLN 1,780.96 gross. They will be awarded to all retirees whose basic benefit does not exceed PLN 2,900 gross. In the case of higher pensions, the “PLN for PLN” principle is applied.
It is worth noting that this year’s fourteenth pensions will be lower than last year. The government has the opportunity to increase this amount, but current plans suggest that this type of increase is not planned by the current administration. According to information provided by the “Fakt” daily, the Ministry of Family does not plan to increase benefits, so payments will be lower by approximately PLN 1,000 compared to last year. Let us recall that last year the PiS government took advantage of a provision in the act that allowed those in power to increase the additional pension benefit. On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the harvest festival in Paradyż in the province. Łódź provided important information regarding the fourteenth pension. – I would like to inform you that the 14th pension will amount to PLN 2,200 net (PLN 2,650 gross – editor’s note) – announced Jarosław Kaczyński, president of PiS.
The exact date of payment of the fourteenth pension has not yet been set. In previous years, the funds were transferred to seniors’ accounts in the summer or autumn. The government has until October 31 to set payment dates, which means that theoretically the “fourteenths” can be transferred to retirees even in December. In 2023, “fourteenth” payments were made in September. In September 2023, pensions were also paid to people receiving pensions in the uniformed system. Unofficially, it is said that the “fourteenths” will be transferred to retirees’ accounts after the holidays.
The amount of the “fourteenth pension” depends on the amount of the basic pension benefit. For example, if a pensioner receives a pension of PLN 4,000, the “fourteenth pension” amount will be reduced by PLN 1,100, which is the difference between his benefit and the limit amount of PLN 2,900. As a result, instead of receiving the full amount of PLN 2,650, he will only receive PLN 1,550 gross.
People whose income exceeds PLN 5,500 gross will not receive the “fourteenth pension”. According to the regulations, the amount of “fourteen” must be at least PLN 50 gross. For example, a person receiving a basic benefit of PLN 5,490 will receive PLN 60 gross as a “fourteenth pension”. A person receiving exactly PLN 5,500 gross will receive only PLN 50 gross. If your pension exceeds PLN 5,500 (even by PLN 1), you will not receive the “fourteenth pension”.
It is worth noting that the forecast amount at the moment is PLN 2,650 gross. If this amount were larger and the payment rules remained the same, then more people could qualify for a “fourteenth pension”.
According to available information, the Ministry of Family does not plan to change the amount of the additional benefit – and PiS took advantage of this option in 2023. Therefore, this year’s fourteeners may be about PLN 1,000 lower than last year.

- The Act assumes that the minimum amount of the fourteenth pension will be PLN 50 gross. If the individual calculation of the 14-year pension amount is lower than PLN 50, the additional pension benefit will not be granted.
- Pensioners receiving more than PLN 4,438.44 gross per month will not receive the fourteenth pension in 2023.
There is no appeal against these two principles above.
The following beneficiaries will receive a 14th pension:
- retirees receiving pensions (bridge, periodic capital and partial),
- pensioners (disability pension, social pension – also in reduced amount, survivor’s pension, accident pension, survivor’s pension),
- war invalids,
- military invalids,
- receiving parental supplementary benefits (Pension Mama 4+),
- civilian blind victims of military operations,
- recipient of teacher compensation benefits,
- people on pre-retirement benefits,
- retirees and pensioners of uniformed and military services.
- To receive the 14th pension, you do not need to submit any applications or documents. ZUS transfers the benefit automatically to all eligible seniors in the amount due to them – the rates can be found in the article gallery.
- No deductions or executions will be made from the 14th pension amount. The bailiff has no right to seize funds paid for the 14th pension.
- The amounts paid for the 14th pension will not affect the rights of persons applying for benefits, allowances, allowances, assistance or other financial support (e.g. rehabilitation relief).
- The fourteenth pension will be entitled to a survivor’s pension to which more than one person is entitled. In such a case, the fourteenth pension will be divided proportionally between persons entitled to a survivor’s pension.
