After the terrorist attack in Moscow where at least 137 people were murdered, President Emmanuel Macron called a crisis meeting with the French Security Council. On the agenda: “The attack and its consequences”. After the meeting, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announces that the terror threat level will again be raised to the highest possible: State of Emergency.

“Given that IS is claiming responsibility for the attack and the threats hanging over our country, we have decided to raise the Vigipirate level to its highest level: emergency,” writes the Prime Minister.

Attal is also calling all security services to a new meeting on Monday morning to coordinate the work going forward.

– IS Khorasan is responsible for the attack in Moscow. They also threaten France and have been involved in several failed attack plans in several European countries, including in Germany and France, says Attal according to The Parisian.

The two Afghan men who were arrested in Germany this week, suspected of having planned a terrorist attack on the Riksdag in Stockholm, also belonged to IS Khorasan, which is a branch of IS that has its base in Afghanistan.

The terrorist threat level in Sweden is at the second highest level, four on a five-point scale.

– I have no information that it is now relevant to raise it further. But of course we are closely following and evaluating what is happening in Russia in view of the terrorist act in Moscow, says Karin Lutz, Säpo’s spokesperson, to TT.

France lowered its threat level in January, after having it at its highest level since the Arras school attack last October.
