Skumbollar Climbs Germany’s Listener Charts with “Look into My Eyes”
Skumbollar, a Swedish band from Gothenburg, has charted a notable progression on the German music scene with their single “Look into My Eyes.” Initially entering Germany’s listener charts (“Die Hörercharts”) at position 14, the track advanced to position 5 within a single week, according to band member and producer Lars Svensson.
While the group is building momentum with original material from their LP, Swedish Vibes, they continue their work as an ABBA cover band across Scandinavia. Svensson noted in an interview with Austria Top 30 Deejay Charts that the band has no plans to drop their tribute performances, acknowledging that their foundation as an ABBA cover act paved the way for their current projects.
From Scandinavian Circuit to the Studio
Established in 2013, Skumbollar—consisting of Alma Lindgren, Elsa Bergqvist, and Lars Svensson—spent years performing at weddings, corporate events, and folk festivals throughout Scandinavia. Over time, the trio began developing original song concepts, eventually deciding to record material that reflects their own artistic identity outside of tribute performances.
The resulting five-track LP, Swedish Vibes, draws heavily from personal experiences and Swedish culture. Tracks on the album explore themes such as traditional food, local romances, and fishing. For instance, the track “Every Flavour” originated spontaneously during a wedding in Sweden following a buffet featuring regional specialties.
Blending Artificial Intelligence with Swedish Roots
On Swedish Vibes, Skumbollar combined traditional songwriting approaches with artificial intelligence tools. Svensson clarified in interviews that the technology serves merely as a production utility rather than a substitute for human creativity. The band maintains that all original melodies, lyrical concepts, and emotional direction originate directly from the trio.
The band’s name itself—Skumbollar—refers to a traditional Swedish confectionery resembling a chocolate-coated marshmallow treat. According to the group, the name was chosen to maintain a distinct cultural connection to their homeland as they expand their reach into German-speaking markets.
Balancing Live Tribute Sets and International Expansion
The recent chart progression in Germany coincided with planned live appearances in the country, prompting the group to submit their new material to German listener charts. Although the band aims to build broader recognition outside of Sweden, they remain booked for live performances as an ABBA cover act, allowing them to introduce their original compositions to audiences during live sets.
As Swedish Vibes continues to gain traction, Skumbollar intends to maintain both paths: continuing their live tribute shows while promoting their original recorded music internationally.
