Celebrating Community Contributions: A Recap of the FSF40 Hackathon

The recent FSF40 Hackathon was a resounding success, bringing ​together a passionate community dedicated to improving free software. It’s truly inspiring to witness so many individuals dedicating their time and skills to a cause they believe in. ‌over one weekend, participants tackled projects ‌across a diverse range of free software initiatives, including GNU boot, ​Lewa, op-mattermost,⁢ and Org Mode.

It was a fitting culmination⁢ to our fortieth anniversary events,reinforcing that ‌free software thrives on community effort.

Recognizing Outstanding Contributions

At the close of the hackathon, we highlighted three exceptional contributions with special​ awards. These awards acknowledge not only technical skill but also the​ values that​ underpin the free software movement.

* ‍ First-Time Contributor Award: This award recognized the​ “un-archive” team from Org Mode, celebrating their team’s inclusion of new contributors to free software. It’s fantastic ⁤to see newcomers joining the movement and​ making a difference.
* Most Impactful Contribution​ Award: Jiyu received this ‌award for their significant work ⁤on GNU Boot, specifically removing non-free software in ARM trusted Firmware⁤ for free GNU/Linux distributions.Their contribution directly enhances the freedom and security of the operating system.
* Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Award: ‌ The Lewa project was honored for their outstanding⁣ commitment to‌ advancing⁤ diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the free software community. creating a welcoming and inclusive surroundings is crucial for ​the continued growth and success of the ⁣movement.
