Celebrating Community Contributions: A Recap of the FSF40 Hackathon
The recent FSF40 Hackathon was a resounding success, bringing together a passionate community dedicated to improving free software. It’s truly inspiring to witness so many individuals dedicating their time and skills to a cause they believe in. over one weekend, participants tackled projects across a diverse range of free software initiatives, including GNU boot, Lewa, op-mattermost, and Org Mode.

It was a fitting culmination to our fortieth anniversary events,reinforcing that free software thrives on community effort.

At the close of the hackathon, we highlighted three exceptional contributions with special awards. These awards acknowledge not only technical skill but also the values that underpin the free software movement.
* First-Time Contributor Award: This award recognized the “un-archive” team from Org Mode, celebrating their team’s inclusion of new contributors to free software. It’s fantastic to see newcomers joining the movement and making a difference.
* Most Impactful Contribution Award: Jiyu received this award for their significant work on GNU Boot, specifically removing non-free software in ARM trusted Firmware for free GNU/Linux distributions.Their contribution directly enhances the freedom and security of the operating system.
* Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Award: The Lewa project was honored for their outstanding commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the free software community. creating a welcoming and inclusive surroundings is crucial for the continued growth and success of the movement.
