Building a Future Where Black Creatives Thrive: shavone Charles and the Rise of future of Creatives (FOC)
The creative landscape is shifting, and wiht it, a growing need for equitable access and genuine community. Shavone Charles understands this intimately. Her journey, woven through diverse realms and communities, has culminated in Future of Creatives (FOC) – a consultancy and multimedia company designed to empower underrepresented talent and reshape the industry.
Charles’ insight stems from firsthand experience. She’s witnessed both the triumphs and struggles of Black creatives, recognizing the critical gaps in resources and career advancement. “It’s a perfect combination of all the realms and careers I’ve walked in, and the communities I’ve been able to exist in,” she explains. “To see how we’re thriving,but also surviving,and to no what we’re in need of.”
From Events to a Full-Scale Creative force
FOC began as culture-shifting events and collaborative experiences, quickly gaining momentum. This allowed Charles to realize her vision: transforming FOC into a extensive resource for creatives.Today, the company offers expertise in:
* Strategic advisory
* Marketing communications
* creative direction
* Brand partnerships
* Original content creation
* Experiential production
Each element is carefully crafted to deliver hospitality-driven experiences. FOC doesn’t just provide tools for success; it fosters a vital sense of belonging.
“Right now, we have to count on each other,” Charles emphasizes. “For Black women, it’s an ongoing realization that nobody understands and supports us like we support each other.”
Navigating a Rapidly Evolving Creative World
The modern working world demands adaptability. As traditional career paths become less secure, Charles believes creating access is paramount. “I do think it’s critical that we fight for those things,” she says. “It’s crucial for our identities and our core, and how we show up and serve ourselves in moments where you can’t lean on your job title to validate who you are.”
This focus on self-validation is key.The ability to define your worth without external approval is a powerful skill, especially for those historically marginalized. FOC aims to cultivate this resilience.

“You have to know why you’re here without that validation,” she asserts. “We’ve been told the opposite every day of our lives, so there’s power in our positions and how hard we’ve worked to get into these places.”
Ultimately, FOC is a testament to the power of community, resilience, and the unwavering belief in the potential of Black creatives. It’s a space where you can define your own success, connect with like-minded individuals, and build a future where your creativity is not only valued but celebrated.
