The German authorities say that the agents of the Offenbac Municipal Police were simply stunned by what they found in the minibus with Romanian workers.

“During routine patrol, duty officer Benno Zeisler noticed a white minibus parked on the side of the road near the Kaiserlei intersection. The worn and unkempt exterior of the vehicle was not the only aspect that attracted the attention of the authorities. The rear windows of the minibus were covered with pieces of carpet, and the massively deformed door sills and visible oil leaks raised serious suspicions among the law enforcement authorities,” reads a statement quoted by the German publication Frankfurter Neue Presse.

The driver smelled of alcohol

When they approached the driver, the police found that the man smelled strongly of alcohol. Subsequent tests confirmed the suspicions: the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.72 per thousand. Two empty beer bottles were found in the vehicle.

And not only that. When the driver was asked for a further drug test, the man said he could not urinate, raising further suspicions that banned substances might be involved in the driver’s behaviour, so he was escorted to the police station for investigation thorough.

All four Romanians were registered.

When asked what the sulfur-smelling cask contained, one of the passengers suggested it was food: “Eating.”

The agent then found that pieces of sauerkraut were floating inside.

The minibus, prohibited on public roads

The minibus was checked at a technical inspection station, where ten defects and a broken spring were found.

The expert determined that the vehicle represents a real public danger and decided to ban its circulation on public roads, according to Știri Diaspora.

The four Romanians had to call a platform to lift the car. The drunk driver got a fine of 273 eurosas well as a sanction of 103.50 euros for driving a non-compliant vehicle and was charged, among other things, technical inspection and towing expenses.

“The vehicle will definitely be taken directly to Romania,” said the expert, according to the quoted source.
