GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) has completed it’s acquisition of RAPT Therapeutics, a California-based biotechnology company, for $2.2 billion. The deal, initially announced in January 2024, grants GSK global rights to ozureprubart, an investigational antibody designed to treat food allergies.GSK Proclamation
Understanding Ozureprubart and Food Allergies
Oazureprubart is a monoclonal antibody that targets immunoglobulin E (ige), a key driver in the allergic response. IgE antibodies trigger the release of chemicals that cause the symptoms of allergic reactions. By blocking IgE, ozureprubart aims to prevent or reduce the severity of reactions to food allergens. Currently, managing food allergies often involves strict avoidance of allergens and carrying epinephrine auto-injectors for emergency treatment. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
Unlike current treatments that may require frequent governance (every 2-4 weeks), ozureprubart is being developed for less frequent dosing – possibly every 12 weeks. This could substantially improve patient convenience and adherence.
