Guinea-Bissau: televisions and radios without transmissions for several weeks in Nhacra –

The Minister of Social Communication said that radio and television stations with transmitters in Nhacra, Guinea-Bissau, have been off the air for several weeks due to damage attributed to a fire.

According to Conceição Évora, in statements cited by Lusa, the problem affects several broadcasters, including RTP-África, RDP-África, Television of Guinea-Bissau (TGB), Rádio Nacional da Guiné-Bissau (RDN) and the French broadcaster RFI. Although the television signal still reaches viewers through cable TV or the Internet, problems persist.

The difficulties began in January with the failure of a transformer, later worsened by the fire that damaged equipment and required its replacement, including the entire electrical system.

Minister Évora stated that they are in the process of acquiring new equipment outside the country, as it is not available locally. The problem is expected to be resolved within one to two weeks, depending on the time needed for the equipment to arrive in Bissau.

RTP declared that it was awaiting minimum security conditions to resume its broadcasts in Guinea-Bissau. The minister clarified that the problem is not related to safety, but to the damage caused by the fire, which requires replacement of the equipment.
