Ancelotti makes it clear: Güler will stay
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti, in his usual stoic manner, initially put the brakes on the euphoria a little after the game and highlighted the performance of all the players who had been used less recently. At the same time, the Italian also made it clear that Güler plays an integral role in the plans for the coming season: “Everyone who played less in the last phase of the season did very well today, Arda, Dani, Fran Garcia. They showed a good attitude and a lot of effort on the pitch. They fought. Arda scored a goal. He will be a very important player for us in the future. There is no doubt that he will stay with us next season.”
In the same breath, the 64-year-old raved about the great talent of the attacking midfielder, although the gifted left-footer still needs to have the necessary patience: “He has exceptional quality and is blessed with a lot of talent. As I said, he worked very well and yes, he could have played earlier. But he is very young and step by step he will get more presence, that’s pretty clear. I think he scored more goals than he played minutes.”
Güler must continue to be patient: “I work hard every day”
Strictly speaking, Güler is now standing by two goals from 166 competitive minutes spread over eight games, plus a hit on the post in the Copa del Rey and a penalty taken in the league. A balance that will be further expanded in the coming weeks – and apparently also in the next season. As can be heard from Ancelotti’s words, Los Blancos want to continue to proceed cautiously and not rush anything. An approach that has already led to success with players like Vinícius Júnior and Federico Valverde.
Since a rumored loan seems to be off the table – at least for the time being – Güler can now fully concentrate on creating a good starting position for the new season in the coming weeks. After all, the competition with Endrick and possibly Kylian Mbappé will by no means become less. In any case, the player himself continues to be humble and seems willing to accept the competition. “I work on both the physical and mental aspects. I work hard every day”said the 19-year-old. The next few weeks will show to what extent this hard work pays off.
He is obviously not thinking about a loan or playing experience abroad; he had a good example in Takefusa Kubo, who may have had too little patience and missed opportunities in Madrid. Güler has used his again and will probably want to use more in the league season, which is almost over.
