Political leader Hamas Ismail Haniyeh plans to meet the President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan this weekend.

Their meeting will discuss a number of future problems in the Gaza Strip and how to resolve them.

“I will host the leader of the Palestinian cause at the weekend. We will discuss a number of issues,” Erdogan was quoted as saying AFPThursday (18/4).

Haniyeh’s visit to Turkey was the first since Israel carried out brutal aggression in Gaza on October 7.

Previously, Haniyeh had met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss humanitarian assistance to Gaza and talks about freeing hostages.

Hamas considers that “Turkish centrality” can be an important aspect of the state in helping Palestine resolve the issue.

Fidan as the representative from Ankara also added that unity between Palestinians is needed to become a sovereign state.

He then conveyed Türkiye’s position which is actively pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza and the issue of a two-state solution.

In addition, Fidan also exchanged ideas with Haniyeh about a clear solution for Palestine in the future.

“We exchanged views regarding their (Hamas) need to openly share their views, what kind of hopes they have in a solution towards a Palestinian state to eliminate these perceptions,” said Fidan.

Haniyeh’s meeting with Turkey’s top leader could be a breath of fresh air for Hamas to find a solution to get out of Israel’s shackles.

The efforts that the Palestinian government continues to make are also visible not only physically but through diplomatic channels.

This can be seen from several countries that have recently participated in pushing for the United Nations Security Council (UN) so that Palestine can become a full member of the UN.

However, until now Israel is still continuing to beat Palestine in the midst of the resolution that has been passed by the United Nations Security Council.
