HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is facing significant production challenges due to the strict shooting schedules of its young cast, according to cinematographer Adriano Goldman. The production is utilizing a specialized on-site schooling system at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden to balance the children’s education with a rigorous filming schedule.

However, the logistical demands of working with child actors have created what Goldman describes as a “brutal” environment for the crew, specifically regarding the narrow windows of time available to capture footage.

The classrooms operate on weekdays between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm. This schedule allows the young actors to fit in their actual studies between night shoots, reshoots, and location filming. Goldman told Andre Pilli, via Variety, that these restrictions force the crew to work at an accelerated pace. “You have to shoot really fast, and the faster you go, the more you compromise quality,” Goldman stated. He further described the children’s screen time as “brutal,” noting that the methodology must be highly specific to avoid delays.
The scheduling constraints have forced the production to shoot scenes out of order and pre-shoot elements while the children are in class. Goldman characterized the overall process as “really complicated,” though he noted that he has now completed one such cycle of production.
