The little Seagull arrives in Europe at a price of only 12,000 euros

The Chinese manufacturer BYD is among the main players not only in the domestic market, but also abroad. And its Seagull model will arrive in Europe in 2025 to face the cheapest electric cars and especially the Dacia Spring.

The electric car was presented at the Beijing Motor Show, which is currently taking place. A Motor1 team was also present there, revealing interesting details about the future of Seagul. In China, the prices of the hatchback with 5 doors and a range of 250 km start at 8,100 euros. In Italy, the electric car will sell for around 12,000 euros, which is definitely a threat to Spring.

The Seagull is part of BYD’s Ocean series of electric cars. Its length is only 3.78 meters, which makes it perfect for purely urban use. Its vision is the work of the chief designer of the Chinese brand, Wolfgang Egger, who has worked for Alfa Romeo and Audi.

At the front there is no space for a “frunk”, that is, for a small front trunk, while at the back there is a cargo compartment with a maximum capacity of 930 liters with the rear seat folded. Behind the steering wheel there is a small 5-inch instrument panel screen, while in the center of the instrument panel there is a 12.8-inch monitor for the multimedia system as well as various controls.

Currently, the small BYD is offered with a 75 hp electric motor, the power of which is transmitted to the front axle. The customer can choose between two batteries – 30.08 kWh (LFP lithium iron phosphate battery) or 38.88 kWh BYD Blade (also LFP).

With the small battery, the Seagull is expected to travel around 250 km on the WLTP cycle, while the BYD Blade can reach 300 km on the WLTP cycle, which is quite enough for a city car.

The model itself was launched in China a year ago – in April 2023, while the one arriving in Europe in 2025 will be an updated version – possibly an upcoming facelift of the car shown in Beijing.
