Silksong Patch Update: Bug Fixes & Beta Testing Progress – What You Need to Know
Team Cherry continues to refine Hollow Knight: Silksong with a new patch now available through a steam beta program. This update focuses squarely on stability and polish, addressing a range of bugs without introducing any balancing changes - for now. If you’re eager to experience the improvements firsthand, you can join the beta test via Steam here. Keep in mind that further tweaks are planned before the patch’s full release.
What’s Being Addressed in This Patch?
Team Cherry describes this patch as a continuation of their post-launch refinement, building on the critical fixes delivered in the first update. This time, the focus is on cleaning up lingering bugs and improving the experience with specific tools. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the changes:
* Visual Enhancement: A new “Dithering” effect option has been added to Advanced video settings. This reduces color banding, perhaps at the cost of slightly softer foreground visuals. It’s off by default,allowing you to experiment.
* Achievement Clarity: The description for the “Herald’s Wish” achievement has been clarified. You now need to both complete the wish and finish the game to unlock it.
* Boss Bug Fixes: Several boss encounters have received targeted fixes:
* Savage Beastfly (Far Fields): No longer gets stuck below the lava.
* Shrine Guardian Seth: Prevents rare instances of Seth escaping the battle arena.
* Disgraced Chef Lugoli: Fixed an issue where Lugoli would sometimes fly off-screen and not return during the fight.
* Chapel of the Reaper (Silk Snippers): reduced the chance of Silk Snippers getting stuck out of bounds.
* Death Sequence Polish: A particularly captivating fix addresses messy or out-of-sync death sequences when defeating a boss concurrently with your own demise.
* Progression & Softlocks:
* Shaman Binding: prevents a softlock when binding into a bottom transition.
* Cocoon Spawning: Cocoon locations have been adjusted to prevent them from appearing in inaccessible areas.
* Steel Soul Mode: Fixed an issue preventing access to Liquid Lacquer courier delivery in Steel soul mode.
* NPC Interactions: Corrected instances of NPCs failing to deliver cursed hint dialogues.
* World Interactions:
* Pondcatcher Reed: Now flies away after singing as intended.
* Verdania Memory Orbs: Fixed replaying layered screen-edge burst effects.
* Tool & Skill Functionality:
* Break Counter: the break counter now functions correctly for multi-hit tools like the Conchcutter.
* Volt Filament: Damage multiplier now applies correctly to certain Silk Skills.
* Enemy AI:
* Cogflies & Wisps: No longer inappropriately target Skullwings.
* Cogfly HP: Corrected an issue where Cogflies would reset their HP on scene change.
* Curveclaw: No longer breaks on the first hit after being deflected.
* Consumable Restoration: Fixed issues with Plasmium Phial and Flea Brew not restoring health as intended at benches.
* Numerous Smaller Fixes: A host of other minor tweaks and improvements have been implemented.
A Hilarious Bug & A hopeful Suggestion
one bug that caught our attention is the aforementioned issue with death sequences. Imagine the satisfaction (and frustration!) of defeating a boss as you’re being defeated. Currently, this can lead to a glitchy outcome.
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Team Cherry leaned into this? Perhaps a unique, humorous animation or reward for those who manage this incredibly precise timing? A little quirkiness to soften the blow of defeat would be a welcome addition.
