The New York City Mayor’s Office is offering 100,000 free tickets to the public for the 50th Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display, providing attendees with access to prime viewing zones along the Brooklyn and Manhattan waterfronts. Interested individuals can register for a randomized lottery through the official city portal, with the application window open from Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. through Monday, June 29, at 11:59 p.m.
According to a statement from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city is prioritizing public access to these waterfront spaces to ensure that residents and visitors alike can participate in the Independence Day celebrations. The distribution of these tickets serves as a centerpiece for the city’s holiday planning, aiming to manage crowds while providing high-quality vantage points for the fireworks show.
How to Register for the Fireworks Lottery
Participation in the ticket lottery is open to the public regardless of residency; you do not need to be a New York City resident to enter. Each person is limited to a single registration, which must be completed using a unique phone number and email address. To initiate the process, applicants must visit the official city website during the designated window of June 26 through June 29.
When registering, you will be required to provide your full name as it appears on your ID, a valid email address, and a mobile phone number. A verification code will be sent to your device to confirm your entry. The lottery process is entirely randomized, meaning that the timing of your application does not impact your chances of selection, nor are tickets allocated based on borough or neighborhood.
Selecting and Claiming Your Tickets
If you are selected as a recipient, you will receive an email notification between June 30 and July 3. This communication will specify a set timeframe during which you must claim your tickets. During this window, you can choose from available standing zones in either Brooklyn or Manhattan. If you fail to complete the registration within the allotted time, your selection will be forfeited.
Winners are permitted to register a group of up to four people, including themselves. Each member of the group must have their name and email address submitted to receive an individual ticket. On July 3, the city will release specific logistical details, including designated entry points and arrival times for ticket holders. Ticketed viewing areas are scheduled to open at 4 p.m. in Brooklyn and 6:30 p.m. in Manhattan.
Options for Non-Ticketed Viewers
For those who do not secure a spot through the lottery, the city maintains public, non-ticketed viewing areas. These spaces are situated along the FDR Drive in Manhattan, with access for the general public scheduled to open at 6 p.m. The Mayor’s Office will provide more information on entry points and locations in the near future.
