China Dominates Humanoid robot Market, poses Challenge to Tesla
China is rapidly emerging as the dominant force in the global humanoid robot market, accounting for 90% of the approximately 13,000 humanoid robots shipped worldwide in the past year. This significantly outpaces competitors, including US-based Tesla, and its Optimus robot. Morgan Stanley projects Chinese humanoid robot sales will more than double to 28,000 units this year.
The growing prominence of Chinese robotics companies has not gone unnoticed by industry leaders. Tesla CEO Elon musk recently acknowledged China as a formidable competitor, stating, “People outside China underestimate China but China is an ass-kicker next level.” He anticipates Chinese firms will be his biggest rivals as Tesla pivots its focus towards embodied AI and the advancement of Optimus.
This rapid growth in China highlights the increasing importance of securing attention in the early stages of the robotics market. As the article notes,“In an early market, attention becomes a resource.”
