The only condition for the artworks was that the size had to be the same as Vermeer’s original street and the painting had to have a street line of 7 centimeters. “This way we could hang the paintings next to each other so that the street continues. It is a collection of works of art in oil paint, ceramics, Lego, felt-tip pen, wood and much more. All the streets now form one long street of the whole of Zeeland and that symbolizes connection,” says Arjelien van Dijke of the organization.

No entries were rejected, all works of art were given a place in the former ING building on Stadhuisplein in Terneuzen. Anton Bevers didn’t hesitate for a moment and was immediately inspired by the assignment. “I started by drawing an authentic street, but I thought that’s what everyone does. I therefore opted for an abstract work of art with bright colors and straight lines. I am very happy and satisfied with the result,” says Bevers.
