I’ve always had mixed feelings about Harry Potter. On the one hand you can wake me up at night for a good British boarding school story, on the other hand I never understand stories about magic. Or maybe understanding isn’t the word: as soon as I read a sentence about something magical, I forget the previous one.

It’s something with too much fantasy, wonderful figures and general magic that doesn’t take hold in my head. Ultimately, after hours of reading and watching films about Harry, all I know is that he had a kind of house slave called Dobby who hit himself a lot – you remember that.

Still, I wanted to go to the Harry Potter studios in London, because I love grand, super-professional Hollywood-style things.

I walked with my children, who, even though it had been years since they read the books and films, still knew exactly who each druid was, where he appeared in the story, and which magical giant spider or owl he interacted with. had.

When one of the extremely outgoing employees at the Potter Studios asked me what I liked best, I couldn’t think of the name of Harry’s best friend. ‘The house of… of…’ ‘Ron!’, my children shouted.

Is there any point in visiting a film studio amusement park if, after years of reading and watching films, you have not fully understood the entire Potter saga? Yes. Because it’s really bizarre how much work and dedication went into those films, where I always disrespectfully fell into a deep sleep halfway through.

A candy store that is on screen for ninety seconds and that took months to complete, an entire train that was renovated, hundreds of masks, screaming plants, dozens of trained cats, massive chandeliers and buildings that were specially built to be burned down, because a lot burns down. .

I found that I was more fascinated by the story behind the story than by the story itself.

Sometimes JK Rowling would peek around the corner; in the video shown at the beginning of the tour, and with her initials appearing on every piece of merchandise. I was sad that there wasn’t more to see about her; For example, I would like to see a replica of the Edinburgh cafe where she wrote her manuscripts because she was too poor to turn on the heating at home, or the compartment in the delayed train where she once came up with the idea for the Potter stories.

A complete amusement park about JK Rowling’s life, that seems magical to me.
