Alexei Navalny’s body has been handed over to his mother, said Navalny’s press chief, Kira Jarmis, who thanked all those who together demanded the release of the body of the Russian opposition politician on X (formerly Twitter).

The press chief also informed that Lyudmila Ivanovna, Navalny’s mother, is still in Salehard. Funeral preparations are still underway, and it is not yet known whether the authorities will intervene.

According to the first reports, the death of the Russian opposition politician could have been caused by a blood clot, but since the relatives were not allowed to see the body, nor was it released to the next of kin, many people suspected that the politician’s death might not have been an accident. Most of the Western world and the Hungarian opposition clearly blamed Putin for Navalny’s death, while the Russians blamed Washington and Brussels.

The 47-year-old politician had been in prison since 2021.
