India Set to Showcase Fusion of Tradition and Athleticism at pole & Aerial Sports World Championship
A young indian team is poised to make a splash at the Pole and Aerial Sports World Championship, bringing a unique and captivating performance that blends the grace of Indian classical dance with the strength and artistry of modern aerial sports. The team, comprised of talented athletes aged 9 to 15, has been diligently preparing to present a performance incorporating elements of Bharatnatyam and Kathak alongside their pole and aerial silk routines. One performer eloquently stated, “We have attempted this, and the end result is a beautiful blend of a Western sport with Indian elements.”
A Legacy of Strength and innovation
Their training has taken place at the historic Samarth Vyayam Mandir in Shivaji park, a renowned institution for pole and rope Mallakhamb – a customary indian gymnastics discipline.This ground has been instrumental in popularizing Mallakhamb globally, thanks to the contributions of Padmashri Uday Deshpande.
Following in her father’s footsteps,Aditi Deshpande established Fly High Aerial Art in 2013. She brought back expertise gained from studying aerial silk in the United States in 2010. Today, she leads classes at multiple locations across Mumbai, including Shivaji Park, Khar, Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar, and within schools like Ascend International, Bombay Scottish, Mount Litera School International, and Somaiya.
Dedicated Training and National Support
Aditi expressed immense pride in her students’ dedication. “I am extremely proud of all the hard work my students have put in for their championship. We hope to return with as many medals as possible, but winning or losing apart, I am confident that our performers will make India proud.”
The team’s selection was overseen by the Indian Pole Sports Association, with key leadership from Secretary Shrikant Warankar and Treasurer Suresh Gandhi. This national backing underscores the growing recognition and support for pole and aerial sports within India.
