A Canadian tourist was reported missing by his friend. After searching, he was found dead under the train platform.

Reporting from The Tiger on Friday (22/3/2024), Ralph Joseph Ryan (26), a Canadian tourist was reported missing by his friends. He said he disappeared on his way from Bangkok to Chumphon and Trang, Thailandusing train number 168.

According to his friend’s testimony to the police, Ryan asked to go outside the carriage to smoke when the train arrived in Ratchaburi. He has a habit of smoking while standing in front of the train door during the journey.

After 30 minutes had passed, Ryan never came back. His friends decided to stop at Baan Kluay Station and ask the police for help.

Police officers and railway authorities then formed a search party for Ryan, but he was never found.

His friends decided to help search near Klong Bang Tarn Station in Banpong district with traces of his phone signal. The search was again fruitless.

The next day, Photaram Police Station received a call from the platform construction leader that one of his workers had found the wanted tourist. It is located under the platform of Chet Samian Station in Ratchaburi Province.

The worker told police that he usually took naps under the platform gap. He was shocked when he found the body there.

Ryan allegedly fell off the train. He was found shirtless, wearing dark blue shorts, with his wallet and ID card in his trouser pocket. Nearby were flip-flops and a cellphone. Ryan suffered serious injuries to his left leg, while blood spatters could be seen on the platform.

“He may have accidentally fallen from the train, his feet hit the platform causing severe injuries and a lot of blood loss,” police said.

Furthermore, officers believe that Ryan sought cover under the platform to avoid a train collision, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was unable to get out of the gap.

In fact, Thailand has banned passengers from smoking on trains and train stations. There are no designated smoking areas on trains, so many passengers do so at the train doors or windows. This is what causes accidents to happen, like the one experienced by Ryan.
