Intel’s New Chips Briefly Outperform Apple’s M5: A Short-Lived Victory

Silicon Showdown:‍ Intel Briefly Surpasses Apple’s M5 Chip in Benchmark Tests

Recent benchmark tests⁤ reveal ⁢that laptops powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra Series ⁣3 processors⁣ have temporarily outperformed ⁤the Apple MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 chip. However, this advantage is expected to be⁤ short-lived as Apple prepares to release more powerful iterations of its silicon.

Testing conducted by Wired’s Luke Larsen showcased ‍the performance of the Intel ⁤core Ultra X7 358H in the MSI Prestige 14 ⁣Flip and ‍the ⁢Core Ultra X9 388H in a Lenovo IdeaPad reference unit. ⁤In the Cinebench 24⁣ multi-core ⁢benchmark, the Core Ultra X9 388H achieved a score ⁤of 1285, exceeding⁤ the⁣ M5’s score of 922. ⁢ Similarly, in the 3DMark Steel Nomad⁢ Light test, the Intel chip scored⁣ 5883, compared to the M5’s 5077.

Despite these gains, ‌industry analysts anticipate that Intel’s lead will be quickly‌ eclipsed. The upcoming ⁢M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, expected to debut ‌in new MacBook Pro models, are projected to significantly surpass the performance of the⁤ current Intel offerings. Extrapolating from the performance improvements between the‍ M4 and ‌its Pro/Max variants, the ⁣M5 Max is predicted to deliver extraordinary Geekbench scores.

This temporary benchmark victory for‌ Intel underscores the ongoing competition in ‌the laptop processor market, but the trajectory suggests Apple will soon reclaim ‌its performance leadership.
