A man from Cluj went through a rare experience. His nightmare began after meeting a woman on a dating app. After a short period in which you interacted with it in the virtual environment, the protagonist of the event found himself without money in his accounts.

The man from Cluj, a lawyer by profession, met a mysterious woman on a dating network. He entered into discussions with that person without anticipating what would happen to him. Two husbands were hiding behind the mysterious lady’s account, who blackmailed the lawyer from Cluj. Thus, from the position of defender, he was targeted by a scam set up by those who tricked him.

Scam on a dating network

The Cluj resident created an account on the “AcademicSingles” website. On that platform, the man from Cluj met a couple who introduced themselves as a woman interested in an affair.

Not realizing that the people on the other end of the line were setting up a scam, the man gave in to the temptation and accepted the exchange of phone numbers.

Indecent pictures

The man started communicating by text with the two people, thinking it was a woman looking for an affair. To be as convincing as possible, the respective persons sent him several indecent pictures with a woman. The man later found out that the pictures in question were taken from the Internet.

Instead, the native of Cluj was asked for nude photos, which he sent without hesitation. Moreover, he gave the two people more details about his private life.

Shortly after he exposed his life on the Internet, the man from Cluj was threatened with the publication of photos in which he appears naked. The two crooks told him that they would send the respective images to both his workplace and his parents’ home.

To escape the shame, the man fell into the trap, sending the couple several sums of money. Thus, between May and June 2023, he made 20 bank transfers.

The payments made to the couple on the dating app were between 18,000 and 25,500 lei.

In total, the lawyer transferred approximately 15,000 euros to them.

The incident took place in May last year. The one who put an end to the ordeal of the lawyer from Cluj is actually a sister-in-law of the two partners who defrauded him. The woman helped the victim identify them.

The man was sentenced to three years in prison with execution. His partner was sentenced to the same sentence, but with suspension, being pregnant.
