As so many times before, Isaac Kiese Thelin scored when Malmö FF won 5-1 against IFK Norrköping in the Allsvenskan premiere. Or Isaac Thelin, as it says in the statistics on the Swedish Football Association’s website.
Why does the federation insist on missing one of the striker’s two surnames? They don’t, technically, he says himself.
– In the population register, my name is Isaac Kiese Thelin, but Kiese is my middle name. There was a little miss there. I would like a car called Kiese Thelin, but my real last name is really just Thelin.
“We told the newspapers”
For a long time it wasn’t a big deal, but that changed when football talent began to be noticed while growing up in Örebro. However, changing it in the population register has not been on the table.
– When I started playing football and got into the newspaper back home, dad wanted people to know that it was his son too, so we told the newspapers. But no, I haven’t tried to change the last name.
Isaac Kiese Thelin’s father comes from Congo-Kinshasa and to make matters worse, his surname is not Kiese either.
– His name is Nzau, says Isaac Kiese Thelin and smiles.
– But his first name is Bin-Kiese.
