Isabelle boffey Sets British Indoor 800m Record
Isabelle Boffey broke the British indoor 800m record, running a time of 1 minute 57.43 seconds at the BU Terrier Classic in Boston on January 31, 2026. This performance makes her the second-fastest British woman ever in the event, trailing only Keely Hodgkinson, who holds the record at 1:57.18,set in 2024 World Athletics.
Boffey’s Record-Breaking Performance
The 25-year-old’s time represents a significant personal best, surpassing her previous indoor and outdoor bests by nearly two seconds.It also positions her as the fastest woman in the world over 800m indoors for 2026 and the eighth-fastest woman in history over the distance indoors LetsRun.com.
“It was absolutely the race of my life,” Boffey stated after the race. “Things with my coach and I have been going really well and I am in such a happy and healthy place. I am in shock but it does make sense with the training I’ve been doing.”
Looking Ahead to Major Championships
Boffey is now setting her sights on representing Wales at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and competing at the European Championships in Birmingham in August. She is also considering participation in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland in March, though competition for the two available spots is fierce.
