He emphasized instead of increasing the voltage all possible avenues of diplomatic dialogue must be sought.

Crosetto responded to the previous words of Emmanuel Macron, who did not rule out the possibility of land intervention in Ukraine against Russian forces.

Guido Crosetto kifejtette:

Italy’s position has not changed, we have always said that Ukraine should be helped to avoid the widening of the conflict, but from the beginning we ruled out the direct participation of our soldiers in the conflict.

He added that the Italian constitution and other laws exclude any kind of direct intervention by the armed forces, which is only possible in the case of an international mandate, such as a UN resolution.

The supposed intervention in Ukraine would not be the case, and would do nothing but expand the wave of violence, which above all would not benefit the Ukrainians

– stated the head of the Italian ministry, who said that if the conflict “exploded, Italy would lose a lot”.
The minister emphasized that if the Ukrainian defense system collapses, Italy would be among the countries facing the greatest difficulties both from a practical and diplomatic point of view. He reminded that Italy does not have a self-sufficient defense system and is one of the few states whose defense expenditure does not reach two percent of the gross domestic product.
According to Guido Crosetto, more decisive action by the UN is needed in the field of diplomacy, and the Vatican should also restart mediation between the parties, as well as put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also referred to the planned peace conference in Switzerland.
