The expulsion had been postponed until July, but could not take place this Wednesday.
The Rockin’Squat collective had asked the municipality of Ixelles, Fedasil and the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor, to do everything to avoid the expulsion of 80 peopleincluding 30 children, who occupy a former rest home in Ixelles.
First scheduled for March 19, the expulsion was finally postponed until July. Christos Doulkeridis, mayor of Ixelles, then explained that he would do everything to find a solution for these 80 people.

Ultimately, the owner filed a unilateral motion with the trial court, rendering the agreement void. “After having initiated a unilateral request to the court of first instance, the owner announced to us the judicial decision, namely to order the police zone to provide assistance to the bailiff”, explained the mayor’s office on Monday. Therefore, the order of the Court of First Instance condemns the police zone to 5,000 euros in daily fines as long as it does not carry out the eviction.
“The owner would be prepared not to execute the eviction notice provided that other contracts in progress between him and various public actors are extended and revalued to his advantage. An unhealthy form of blackmail against a backdrop of public money is taking place“, deplores the Rockin’Squat collective.

From then on, the collective calls Fedasil “to break the contract which binds him to the owner“. “It should be the same for all the other actors who are, for some, still in negotiations with him on other issues.”
Rockin’Squat further specifies that “the occupants refuse to give in to the owner’s blackmail and will not leave“.

For the moment, the expulsion is maintained. It should take place around 9 a.m. Currently, there is no rehousing solution for these 80 people.
