During the Eurovision Song Contest, the audience traditionally comments on many things. Even on the live commentary. For example, many people had an opinion about Jacqueline Govaert (42), who appeared as a commentator for the first time during the first semi-final on Tuesday evening. Sander Lantinga (47) revealed on Wednesday morning in ‘De Coen & Sander Show’ on radio station JOE that he was actually asked to provide the commentary, but had to decline.

“Can I be honest? I was indeed asked, yes”

In The Coen & Sander Show Coen Swijnenberg asked Sander on Wednesday morning whether he had been asked to comment. After all, Sander already took a seat next to Eurovision guru Cornald Maas in 2021 when the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Rotterdam.

“Can I be honest? I was indeed asked, yes. If I wanted to sit down again, next to Cornald,” Sander confesses.

But why didn’t Sander board the plane to Malmö, Sweden? “It is the same week that our show starts at JOE. And yes, I hope you will forgive me, but I think our program is just a little more important,” the radio DJ jokes.

Sander asked if he could possibly make the commentary ‘remotely’. “But that didn’t work out. You really have to be there all week. I said: ‘I think JOE and The Coen & Sander Show more important'”. Coen is very happy with that: “Luckily, kind of you!”
