TEPCO Halts Restart of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Reactor after Alarm

The restart of a reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in central-west Japan has been suspended following an alarm⁣ activation during startup procedures. Tokyo Electric Power ⁢Company ⁤(TEPCO), the plant’s operator, received approval from the Niigata prefectural governor last month to begin the process of restarting the reactor, which has been offline since the 2011 Fukushima disaster.

Alarm and current Status

“An alarm from ⁢the monitoring‍ system sounded during the ⁢reactor⁤ startup procedures, and operations are currently suspended,” stated Takashi Kobayashi, a TEPCO spokesperson. He assured⁤ that the reactor remains⁣ stable and there has been no ‍release of radioactivity into the⁣ environment. TEPCO ⁢is currently investigating the cause of the alarm, but has not yet provided a ⁢timeline for resuming operations.
