Jason momoa on Aging and Filming “The ⁣Wrecking Crew”

Jason Momoa is acknowledging the physical toll of action filmmaking as he approaches 50. While promoting his upcoming film, “The Wrecking Crew,” co-starring‍ Dave Bautista, Momoa discussed how⁤ performing stunts feels different now than it did earlier in his career.

Physical challenges on Set

“He’s⁤ 50,and I’m almost there, and it hurts,” Momoa said on the January 25th⁢ edition of Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist. He⁢ specifically recalled a⁣ scene involving ⁢a fight in the rain with Bautista, where⁤ Bautista was positioned on top of him. “he ⁢was on⁤ my chest with his knee, like, just mounted⁤ up on me. And he’s just raining down bombs on you,” Momoa explained.⁤ He jokingly added, “I close ‍my eyes. I’m, like, ⁤’Dave, if you f—— hit me, I’m done. Like, this is it.'”

“The Wrecking Crew” Plot and Origins

“The Wrecking Crew” features Momoa as a “loose-cannon cop” forced to partner with ⁤his estranged brother, played by Bautista, to investigate thier father’s death in Hawaii. The project originated from a 2021 social media ‍post by Dave Bautista, who tweeted his idea for a “Lethal Weapon”-style buddy cop movie starring himself and⁤ Momoa, directed by David Leitch.

While Ángel Manuel soto ⁣ultimately directed the film, Bautista’s vision largely came to⁤ fruition. ⁣Momoa shared that he received a call⁢ from his agents questioning⁣ what he and Bautista were doing together, but confirmed they “got along really⁢ well.”

On-Set Chemistry and Hawaiian Roots

Momoa described Bautista as having “no ego,” calling him a “teddy bear” who is quiet and reserved, contrasting with Momoa’s more outgoing personality. “We’re kind of opposite⁣ but, like,⁢ really blend really well,” he ⁢said. Momoa was ⁤keen about the opportunity to⁣ “show another side of Hawaii” with “The wrecking Crew,” particularly‍ as he was born in the state in 1979.

He explained that when pitching the idea to bautista, his co-star was immediately on board, enjoying the concept of playing estranged brothers.

Momoa’s Recent and Upcoming Projects
