Alex and Marc Marquez from the Gresini Ducati team finished the first free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Circuito de Jerez on Friday morning in 1st and 2nd place. Honda again in nowhere.

Marc Marquez set the first notable best time in the 45-minute FP1 session with 1:37.768 minutes and was at an astonishingly high level after just a few minutes.

For comparison: Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) set the fastest race lap in 2022 with 1:37.669 min, and in the same year the Italian set the pole record with 1:36.170 min.

Marc Marquez improved to 1:37.137 min and was only overtaken four minutes before the end by his Gresini Ducati colleague and brother Alex Marquez with 1:36.630 min. Alex finished the training fastest and remained over half a second ahead of Marc in second place.

At the Grand Prix in Austin/Texas two weeks ago, Maverick Vinales made history and became the first MotoGP rider to win for a third manufacturer in the premier class: after Suzuki and Yamaha, the Spaniard triumphed for Aprilia. The current third place in the World Championships finished FP1 in third place, 0.591 seconds behind, finishing directly in front of his teammate Aleix Espargaro.

KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa, who competed in his last MotoGP season in 2018, has lost little of his previous speed and roared to 7th place. The 38-year-old is the best of the Pierer Group quintet. Brad Binder was eighth and rookie sensation Pedro Acosta was tenth.

World championship leader Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac) acted just as inconspicuously as world champion Bagnaia (Lenovo), the two Ducati aces came ninth and twelfth.

At halftime, Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) crashed in Turn 8 when his front wheel slipped, and eight minutes before the end, Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) had the same accident.

Honda test and reserve driver Stefan Bradl is there with a wildcard and is concentrating in Andalusia on the development of the uncompetitive RC213V. Despite these conditions, the Bavarian drove faster than his brand colleague Luca Marini and came second to last. Zarco brought the best Honda to the embarrassing position 19.
