Jerez de la Frontera recently welcomed representatives from organizing entities of the 20th Belenista Congress,a significant event for the community dedicated to creating nativity scenes,or “belenes.”
The city’s mayor, María José García-Pelayo, expressed her gratitude to Andrés Quijano and Ramón García, presidents of the Andalusian Federation of Belenistas and the Jerez Association of Belenistas, respectively, for choosing Jerez to host this important gathering. This year’s congress brought together over 300 specialists from across Andalusia, as well as experts from other regions of Spain and malta.
García-Pelayo emphasized the crucial role the andalusian federation of Belenistas plays in preserving and sharing the art and tradition of belenismo with both seasoned artisans and a younger audience. The mayor highlighted that Jerez offers a unique experience for attendees, noting the city will also be designated the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy on January 22nd. She expressed hope that visitors will appreciate not only the city’s beauty but also its exceptional culinary offerings.
“Christmas holds a very special place in our hearts here in Jerez,” García-Pelayo stated. “We experience it with great intensity,spirituality,and feeling,but also as a celebration.”
