Breda/Nieuwegein – D66 leader Rob Jetten lashes out at NSC leader Pieter Omtzigt for his formation attempt with the PVV. According to the D66 member, Omtzigt therefore chooses ‘extreme right’. He hopes that NSC, which is holding a party conference in Breda on Saturday, will change its mind.

D66 also has a members meeting today. The Democrats do that in Nieuwegein. In his conference speech, Jetten deliberately sought Pieter Omtzigt’s shins. “What happened to Pieter Omtzigt’s fresh new club? We had great hope of finding him a partner in the political center.”

Jetten says he is disappointed that Omtzigt is talking to the PVV about forming an extra-parliamentary cabinet. “He sold his heart to the PVV in no time.” He hopes that NSC members will correct that course on Saturday. “They hold the key. Does the New Social Contract choose the Wilders-1 cabinet or the Netherlands?”

“Being Dutch means having the freedom to be who you are,” Jetten said at the conference. “Geert Wilders is un-Dutch to the core. And a threat to Dutch values.”

While Jetten prefers to focus on NSC, members at the D66 party conference also want to talk about their own actions. Following the disastrous parliamentary elections for D66, party members have made an analysis of where things went wrong.

The final report discussed at the conference is clear. According to the internal research, voters have turned their backs on the party en masse because D66 was too ‘woke’ and too ‘know-it-all’. The ‘new leadership’ announced by Sigrid Kaag also flopped.
