NASA hiring astronaut with an astonishing annual salary. Selected candidates have the opportunity to fly to Moon until Mars.

NASA astronaut vacancies are open until April 2 2024, and NASA offers a salary of USD 152,258 or around IDR 2.4 billion per year. Unfortunately, currently this vacancy is only open to United States citizens.

“Astronauts will explore and conduct experiments in a place that has never been visited by humans: the South Pole of the Moon,” said NASA in announcing astronaut vacancies, as quoted from Space, Thursday (7/3/2024).

“With NASA’s plans for future exploration, new astronauts will fly further into space than ever before on missions to the Moon and may become the first humans to fly to Mars,” he continued.

Considering that missions to space are full of risks, the requirements to become a NASA astronaut are also quite tough. Applicants must have a master’s degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field including engineering, biological sciences, medical sciences, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution.

Applicants must also have professional experience, a medical residency, or 1,000 hours worked as a pilot. Prospective candidates must also be able to complete a long-term flight astronaut physical test NASA successfully.

NASA last opened registration for astronaut candidates in 2021. At that time there were more than 12,000 people who registered and only 10 people graduated and became active astronauts after undergoing training for 2.5 years.

Astronaut candidates must take part in basic astronaut skills training such as spacewalking, performing operations on the space station, flying a T-38 jet aircraft, and controlling a robotic arm.

NASA first recruited astronauts in 1959. In the last 65 years, the United States space agency has recruited 360 people as astronaut candidates, almost all of whom have been to space.

Today the opportunities for space are much greater than in previous decades. Apart from routine missions to the International Space Station, NASA is also preparing the Artemis mission which will take humans back to the surface of the Moon and on to a mission to Mars.

But missions to space account for only a small portion of an active astronaut’s career. Much of a NASA astronaut’s time is spent supporting other missions in Mission Control or through development projects.
