Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TikTok is believed to be a tool for the Chinese government to shape public opinion in the United States (US). This comes from a poll survey of US citizens which collected an affirmative answer of 58%

Only a few respondents to a survey conducted by and Ipsos said they did not agree with TikTok being a tool of China. The number was only 13% and the rest said they were not sure or did not answer, quoted Thursday (2/5/2024).

Half of respondents to a and Ipsos survey supported TikTok being blocked. However, 32% opposed the ban and the rest said they were not sure.

This response was quite surprising. Because, some time ago, when regulations threatened to block TikTok, many US citizens reportedly protested. TikTok also said blocking its application would stifle the freedom of expression of its 170 million users in the US.

In addition, 46% of answers said TikTok was indeed spying on the lives of US people. Regarding elections, 60% of people said it was inappropriate for candidates to use TikTok for campaigning.

reported TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Since the last few years, the US government has accused TikTok of endangering its national security. However, the video sharing application also continues to deny this.
