Former President Joe Biden criticized President Donald Trump during a private event in Maryland, specifically targeting what he described as “vanity projects” involving the White House and federal facilities. Speaking to Democratic Party donors on Saturday night, the 83-year-old former president characterized the administration’s approach to official infrastructure as “embarrassing for the country.”
During his remarks, Biden focused on several renovations and alterations implemented during Trump’s second term. He cited the modification of the White House East Wing to accommodate a ballroom, the addition of the president’s name to the Kennedy Center, and the construction of an arch as examples of personal branding within the federal government. Biden also referenced the maintenance of the White House Reflecting Pool, stating, “Tearing down the East Wing of the White House making room for his ballroom, putting his name on the Kennedy Center, building an arch in his own honor, even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool. Whoa! What a loser.”
Criticism of Administrative Priorities and Conduct
The remarks in Maryland marked a continued effort by Biden to vocalize opposition to the policies and conduct of the administration. Beyond his critique of physical renovations, the former president addressed broader concerns regarding the intersection of personal financial interests and the duties of the presidency. Biden alleged that the administration has operated with a lack of transparency, stating, “He has no shame. Trump could care less. Making money off the presidency is one of the reasons he wants to be president.”

These comments reflect a consistent theme in Biden’s public statements. He has frequently characterized the administration’s actions as “unacceptable and un-American.” His criticisms have encompassed both domestic infrastructure projects and federal enforcement actions.
Concerns Regarding Federal Enforcement and Deportations
In addition to his comments on infrastructure, Biden has recently addressed the administration’s approach to immigration enforcement. Following reports of widespread Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across the United States, Biden issued a statement on X, arguing that the push for deportations “betrays our most basic values as Americans.”
“Violence and terror have no place in the United States of America, especially when it’s our own government targeting American citizens,” Biden wrote. He added a call for public engagement, stating, “No single person can destroy what America stands for and believes in, not even a President, if we — all of America — stand up and speak out.”
The former president’s speech was captured on video, with clips circulating via YouTube, where he continued to emphasize his stance on the state of the nation.
