Johan Derksen is missing from Today Inside on Thursday evening. The analyst and former football player was struck by the flu, Wilfred Genee said prior to the broadcast.

“We have a little problem, ladies and gentlemen,” says Genee. “Johan Derksen is not here tonight. He is not completely fit and is at home. We first considered canceling the broadcast. Johan wanted that too, but we decided to do it anyway. Rutger Castricum is one of the people who will take his place.”

“The moment had to come at some point. It’s not fun, I understood that Johan is in bad shape,” Castricum said shortly before the broadcast. Genee answers: “He has been a little ill for a long time and now it has become too much.” René van der Gijp, Wouter de Winther and Raymond Mens are also guests in the talk show, which starts on Thursday at 9:35 PM.

Van der Gijp says at the start of the broadcast that Derksen was devastated by a trip to London, where he went to an Arsenal match with John de Bever last weekend. “We also have to take his age into account. The man is 75 years old, which is no small feat. A trip like that to London… Then he has to get up at 5 a.m. and fly at 7 a.m. Then you don’t sleep well. After the match he waited for the taxi for 2.5 hours in the cold. He has to be a little careful.”

The last time Derksen was missing from a broadcast was on March 2, 2023. Even then he was struck by the flu. Four years earlier, Derksen was missing after a night-time fall, which led to a mild concussion, complicated arm fracture and various injuries.
