Roach’s journey began in Austin, Texas, before he became a pivotal figure in the Los Angeles music scene of the late 1980s. He formed Junkyard in 1987, rising from the remnants of his previous band, strappados.
Initially, the band boasted an impressive lineup, including influential skateboarder Tony Alva. Junkyard quickly gained attention, signing with Geffen Records and releasing their self-titled debut album in 1989.
The album achieved modest success, peaking at No. 105 on the Billboard 200. it spawned popular singles like “Blooze,” “Hollywood,” and “Simple Man,” with the latter reaching No. 47 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay charts.
Their follow-up album, Sixes, Sevens & Nines (1991), didn’t chart as high, but it still delivered a standout single. “All the time in the World” climbed to No. 24 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay charts, exceeding the performance of their previous hits.
Sadly, Geffen Records dropped Junkyard shortly after, leading to the band’s dissolution in 1992.An unreleased third album eventually surfaced independently in 1998, offering fans a glimpse of what could have been.
However, the story didn’t end there. Junkyard reunited in 1999, captivating audiences with energetic performances and releasing several projects. This resurgence culminated in a new studio album,High Water,in 2017.

It finally answered years of requests from a dedicated fanbase eager for new music.Guitarist Tim Mosher explained in 2017 the band’s enduring appeal. “There’s a diehard fan base that never stopped digging us,” he said. “During our sporadic touring we would always come across fans asking us when we would release a proper full-length.”
