The woman responsible for the weapons on the set of the film Rust has been found guilty by a jury in the US state of New Mexico in the case surrounding the fatal shooting during the filming of the film. She was charged with manslaughter.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was acquitted of a second charge of tampering with evidence.

Testimony in the case over the past ten days has revolved around the question of whether the relatively inexperienced Gutierrez-Reed endangered the film’s crew and cast with the way she oversaw the use of weapons on the film’s set.

During rehearsals for the film in October 2021, actor Alec Baldwin fired a gun that was supposed to be unloaded but wasn’t. He therefore shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, who did not survive. Director Joel Souza was injured.

Lawyers for Gutierrez-Reed, who could receive up to eighteen months in prison, argued during the trial that she was made a scapegoat and that much more was wrong on the set of the film. Baldwin, who produced the film, has also been charged with manslaughter. His case will be heard in July.
