At 18:00 on Thursday, a demonstration began at Davidshallstorg in Malmö, where the participants express their support for Israel’s participation in the Eurovision song contest.
After about 40 minutes, the journalist and left-wing debater Kajsa Ekis Ekman appeared and shouted, among other things, “genocide” and “is this freedom”. Several pro-Israel protesters then confronted her and told her to leave, and after a few minutes of heated discussion, police stepped in – and took her away.
Kajsa Ekis Ekman: “Genocide”
– I just said genocide, genocide. It’s true, she tells Expressen.
When the police took her away, she asked if she was a suspect, to which the police allegedly replied that she was not.
– You can say genocide, genocide.
Why did you want to say that right here and right now?
– Because they waved Israeli flags.
“Couldn’t help myself”
Kajsa Ekis Ekman says she was on her way to a place to eat when she saw the crowd.
– Then I just felt that I can’t hold back, I have to say what I think.
Henryk Rozenberg, one of the organizers behind the pro-Israel demonstration, calls the event “completely apolitical”.
– We will not make any speeches but only play Israeli music, it is an Israeli party. We will not engage in political discussion, he says South Sweden.
During the day, a pro-Palestinian demonstration was also held, where over 10,000 people marched through Malmö to protest against Israel’s participation in Eurovision.
