Kate Hudson received a Best Actress nomination for her role in Song Sung Blue, marking her first Academy Award nod since her supporting role in Almost Famous (2000). Song Sung Blue is inspired by the 2008 documentary of the same name, which chronicled the lives of Claire and Mike Sardina, a singing duo who performed as a neil Diamond cover band, Lightning and Thunder, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hudson portrays Claire, with Hugh Jackman as mike. The film depicts their musical partnership and personal life throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Mike Sardina passed away in 2006 due to a head injury.

Hudson also received a golden Globe nomination for her performance, but the award was presented to Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You.Byrne is also nominated for the oscar in the Best Actress category, alongside Emma Stone (Bugonia), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value).
