The anniversary text arrived nearly three years after Richards and Umansky publicly confirmed their separation. The couple have continued to navigate their split while maintaining a close family dynamic for their children. However, the milestone date brought underlying grief to the surface for Richards.
“Today’s my 30-year anniversary,” Richards revealed to Gunvalson in the preview footage, as reported by Bravo. “It just makes me sad, you know? He sent me a text and it just set me off.”
Mauricio Umansky’s Emotional Anniversary Text
According to Richards, Umansky reached out on the significant date with a message that caught her off guard and triggered an emotional reaction. She shared the exact phrasing of the text with her castmates, noting how vulnerable her estranged husband’s words felt in the moment.
“It said, ‘Today’s always such a hard day,’ and ‘I love you,'” Richards recounted, quoting the message. “He said, ‘I don’t know how we got here.’ That’s what he said.”
Reflecting on the breakdown of their three-decade marriage, Richards confessed to producers that she harbored deep expectations about their longevity. “I thought we were stronger than that, you know? I really had thought that,” she admitted.
Vicki Gunvalson, who filed for divorce from ex-husband Donn Gunvalson in 2010, expressed immediate sympathy for Richards. “My heart is breaking for Kyle because they’ve got everything that everybody’s looking for,” Gunvalson told producers, noting the shock of seeing such a long-standing union dissolve. Additionally, the family is preparing to welcome their first grandchild, as Farrah Brittany announced her pregnancy with an expected arrival in November.
