The West has not yet betrayed Ukraine, but they have forgotten that a heavy war is going on and instead are solving their own problems, a Latvian volunteer soldier in Ukraine with the nickname “Spoks” admitted this evening on the Latvian Television program “Shodienas mikasmas”.

The man’s name was not released for security reasons, but he said he has been in the hot zone for more than a year and a half and is a sniper/combat medic. Most of the time he had to save people, but lately he has been more active with a gun.

Describing the situation at the front, “Ghost” pointed out that, despite the still fighting spirit, there is a lot of fatigue in the ranks of the defenders of Ukraine, there is no active progress in the recovery of territories, and the soldiers who are not rotated are no longer physically able to fight as before.

“Everything is missing, wildly missing – we are slowly returning to the situation like at the beginning of the war, but already much more difficult,” the soldier emphasized and added that the Russians have also learned to build defensive positions.

The conditions at the front are tough and there are places where you can rest better, but there are places where you have to spend a long time under the open sky while the firing continues. Over the past year, the unit represented by “Spoka” has said goodbye to a fallen member almost every week.

Ukraine’s internal political developments are also echoing among the soldiers, as there is uncertainty about the solutions, “Spoks” pointed out and reminded of the statements of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the now former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, Valery Zaluzhnyi, that a situation has developed on the front.

“Spok” did not deny that there are a lot of questions about the appointment of Oleksandr Sirsky as the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, but only time will tell whether such a decision was correct. “Ghost” also indicated that it is necessary to improve the mobilization policy.

When asked why Ukraine’s planned counterattack failed last year, “Spoks” answered that the reasons were found in the late deliveries of ammunition and many erroneous decisions, considering that the attack had to be carried out against prepared defensive positions.

Ukrainians need heavy equipment, artillery, ammunition and air force from the west. There is great hope for the F-16 aircraft, but there is a question of when they will appear, Spoks emphasized.

Asked if the West has already betrayed Ukraine, the soldier replied: “I wouldn’t say that they have, but it looks more like they have forgotten that there is a heavy war going on and the West is solving its own problems.”

“Spoks” is currently staying in Latvia, but plans to go back, because “if it’s started, it must be completed.”
