We previously informed that we would not wait, but lLatvian checkers have achieved great success, who have won gold medals for teams in the world checkers championship with classical time control in Portugal, but our men’s team became world vice-champions. Yesterday, the most successful of the two Latvian national teams was the men’s national team, which once again won second place and silver medals in fierce competition.
Our athletes won four victories in seven rounds, tied two matches and experienced a loss only in a battle with the winners of the tournament, the Dutch national team, which was one point ahead of the Latvian team with 11 points. Our men equaled the number of points with two more selections, but were second after the additional performances.
The Latvian women’s national team also fought successfully in a special competition against experienced opponents, but this time they lost to the national team of our neighboring country Lithuania in the first round, but the other four matches ended in a draw, taking the fourth place. This time, the Polish team won, the Ukrainian team took second place, and the Chinese athletes took third place.
Today, the world team championship for both Latvian national teams will continue with the fast game competition.
