WHAT IS ERYSIPELA?

Erysipelas is a skin infection, that is, it appears on the skin. It is caused by the entry of external bacteria into the body, usually through small injuries, such as insect bites, chilblains and nail fungus.

With the infectious process, the patient’s skin becomes a victim of lesions and wounds, which can cause swelling and itching. Erysipelas brings other common symptoms, such as chills, high fever, weakness, headache and nausea are common symptoms in people with erysipelas.

If not treated correctly, it can cause widespread infections. People with uncompensated diabetes, venous insufficiency in the lower limbs and people with low immunity are at greater risk of contracting the infection.

TREATMENT

Treatment against erysipelas involves the use of antibiotics, which act against the bacteria responsible for the infection. Medical procedures to reduce swelling and itching, such as massage and facials, are also used.

Normally, the patient must rest to facilitate treatment. Local hygienic care for wounds is also necessary. Such measures are adopted in order to provide greater well-being to the victim of the infection.

It is worth mentioning that not even correct treatment prevents the return of erysipelas in future opportunities, as is the case of Jair Bolsonaro, who became a victim again. The history of the disease, in fact, is one of the facilitators for new cases.
