GAZA – The Lebanese Hezbollah group launched a drone attack on an Israeli military base north of the city of Acre.

This is Hezbollah’s deepest attack on Israeli territory since the Gaza war began, according to a report on Tuesday (23/4/2024).

The Israeli military said it was not aware of any of its facilities being attacked by Hezbollah, but earlier on Tuesday said it intercepted two “air targets” off Israel’s northern coast.

The two sides have exchanged missile fire and airstrikes since the start of the war in Gaza last October, but have refrained from pushing the conflict into an all-out war.

However, as attacks continue, concerns are growing that an accident or miscalculation on either side could cause the conflict to escalate rapidly, and possibly also involve other regional and world powers, including the United States (US).

Hezbollah said it acted in retaliation for an earlier Israeli strike that killed one of its fighters.

The group published what appears to be a satellite photo, with the location of the attack indicated by a flash of light with a red circle around it located midway between Acre and Nahariyya to the north.

In response, the Israeli military said fighter jets struck military targets in Ayta ash Shab and Blida as well as in the Markaba area in southern Lebanon.
