But there is another way. As a wise teacher once said, “The way out is in.” This means turning inward, softening your approach, and cultivating curiosity.
A Practice for Shifting Your Perspective
To begin dismantling these limiting beliefs, try this exercise:
- Identify Your “Great Lies.” Write down three beliefs that hold you back. These might sound like:
* “I must fulfill my family’s expectations to earn their love.”
* “I cannot tolerate disapproval from others.”
* “My worth is tied to my employment status.”
- Reframe the Narrative. Now, write down the opposite of each belief. For example:
* “I don’t have to meet my family’s expectations to be loved.”
* “I can handle others being upset with me.”
* “I possess inherent worth,nonetheless of my employment.”
- Experiment with Possibility. Even if you only embrace these new perspectives by 5%, observe the subtle shifts within you. Notice how a little more space opens up in your mind and heart.
