OPM hitmaker Maki has teamed up with singer-actor James Reid for their first-ever collaboration on the new single “luck.” Blending alternative and indie-pop influences, the track compares falling in love to placing a bet where there are no guarantees, relying solely on the hope that taking a risk will pay off. According to coverage from GMA Network, the song features lyrics in both Tagalog and English, with the artists singing to someone they hope will give them a chance to push their luck.
Maki and James Reid Team Up for New Indie-Pop Single
The release marks the latest project under Tarsier Records. For the creative process, Maki co-wrote the track alongside international songwriters and producers Gaby Ramirez, Pontus Kalm, Greg Shilling, and Shintaro Yasuda. This production team boasts previous credits with global acts such as Ariana Grande, BTS, LE SSERAFIM, aespa, and BINI. The single’s accompanying music video features both artists dancing and chasing each other inside a pink and green office setting.
Continuing the Pink Era and Past Rejection Turned Partnership
The new single serves as a continuation of Maki’s ongoing “pink era,” which kicked off with his previous single "Habangbuhay Pansamantala," released in May. That previous release featured a music video starring SB19’s Justin. Maki previously dropped his debut album, "Kolorcoaster," in 2025, which included tracks such as "Turning Green," "Dilaw," "Namumula," and "Kahel na Langit." His international touring schedule recently brought these crowd favorites to fans in Indonesia and Singapore during June.

Having spent more than a decade in the industry, Reid released the single "Richest Man Alive" earlier in the year and currently stars in the ABS-CBN primetime series "Someone, Someday."
Maki’s touring footprint has similarly expanded his international presence. During his stop in Indonesia for the "KOLORCOASTER" tour, he made an appearance on the country’s hit comedy program "Lapor Pak!" to introduce his humor and personality to a wider audience, with an upcoming performance scheduled at LALALA Fest.
