Man Jailed for Manslaughter in Dublin Assault of Canadian Tourist
Dublin,Ireland – Ionut Danca,a man responsible for the death of Canadian tourist Neno dolmajian,has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for manslaughter. The sentencing follows an assault that occurred on O’Connell Street in dublin in June 2024, resulting in the death of 42-year-old Dolmajian in early July 2024.
Danca pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Dolmajian at the Central Criminal Court. The court heard that the incident began with a verbal altercation, were Dolmajian, who had consumed alcohol, engaged in aggressive behavior towards a group including Danca and his co-accused, Madalin Ghiuzan. Despite not posing a critically important physical threat, Dolmajian was outnumbered and subsequently assaulted.
Ghiuzan, 24, was also sentenced to 12 months in jail for his role in the initial assault on Dolmajian. However, having already served four and a half months in pre-trial detention, the remainder of his sentence was suspended.
Mr. Justice Paul McDermott, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating they were “crimes that should never have been committed” and were carried out in a public space in the city centre. The judge acknowledged Dolmajian’s intoxication and verbal aggression but underscored that he was not a ample physical threat to the group.
The case has drawn attention to issues of public safety and violence in Dublin city centre. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
