Verstappen Acknowledges Tight Title Fight, Dismisses Claims of Lost Motivation
Max Verstappen finds himself in a surprisingly competitive battle for the Formula 1 World Championship, acknowledging a realistic scenario where he could finish third in the driver standings. Despite a season marked by challenges for Red Bull, the reigning champion remains focused on maximizing every race possibility.
With 141 points still available, a three-way fight for the title has materialized, injecting renewed energy into the final stretch of the season. Verstappen is persistent to push his limits and contend for victory in each remaining Grand Prix.
“Worst case, I’m still P3, right?” he stated before the Mexican Grand Prix. “I just want to try and win races until the end of the season.”
He recognizes the need for flawless execution from his team to have a genuine shot at the championship. A triumphant comeback would be remarkable, given the difficulties Red Bull has faced throughout the year.
Verstappen reflected on his past championship wins, noting the contrast to this season’s struggle. He finds the current pressure positive and is enjoying the challenge of being in contention.
“Of course, I’ve won championships very late, very early,” he explained. “Now, this one, of course, is very different because I think for most of the season it was a lot harder for us.”
He emphasized the importance of a competitive car, stating it makes racing significantly more enjoyable.
Recent comments from Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko suggested Verstappen had “lost interest” earlier in the season when the car lacked pace.Though, Verstappen firmly disagrees with this assessment.
He insists he consistently gives his all, regardless of the car’s performance. “No, I don’t,” he responded when asked about Marko’s remarks.
Verstappen explained that while winning is more enjoyable, he always strives to achieve the best possible result, even when facing adversity. “Of course, it’s more enjoyable coming to the race weekends like this, knowing that you have a chance to win,” he said.
he added, “But I know for myself that when I sit in the car, I always try to maximise everything that I have and I give it everything.”
Even when battling for lower positions, Verstappen maintains his commitment to extracting maximum performance. “So, even if I’m fighting for P4 or even a P9, I will always try to get the best out of it.”
This unwavering dedication underscores his passion for the sport and his determination to compete at the highest level, regardless of the circumstances. You can expect a relentless push from Verstappen as the championship battle intensifies in the coming races.
