Marco Odermatt defends his lead in the Super-G World Cup at the World Cup final in Saalbach. Stefan Rogentin celebrates his first victory.

The ball decision

  • 1. Marco Odermatt (SUI/5th place) 495 points
  • 2. Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT/6th place) 409 points
  • 3. Raphael Haaser (AUT/13th place) 271 points

After winning the crystal balls in the overall World Cup and the giant slalom, Marco Odermatt also secured the discipline victory in the Super-G on Friday. A 13th place in Saalbach would have been enough for the man from Nidwalden to triumph in a duel with his only remaining opponent, Vincent Kriechmayr.

The Austrian, who started the race immediately ahead of the Swiss, reached the finish line in intermediate place 5, meaning the decision had already been made. Odermatt, who won two Super-Gs this season and was on the podium a total of five times, made the most of the increasingly difficult slope conditions and edged out Kriechmayr by 0.12 seconds. Thanks to his 5th final place, he had an 86-point lead over second-placed Kriechmayr in the Super-G classification. Raphael Haaser, another Austrian, came third overall.

For Odermatt it is the second discipline victory in the Super-G after he triumphed last season. The 26-year-old now has a total of eight crystal balls.

The podium

  • 1. Stefan Rogentin (SUI) 1:13.36
  • 2. Loïc Meillard (SUI) +0.03
  • 3. Arnaud Boisset (SUI) +0.15

For Switzerland, it wasn’t just Odermatt’s discipline victory to celebrate. Three other Swiss Ski riders even ensured a historic Swiss day of joy. Stefan Rogentin showed an almost perfect ride and celebrated his first ever World Cup victory. The Graubünden driver relegated Loïc Meillard to second place by 0.03 seconds. Arnaud Boisset completed the triple victory, 0.15 seconds behind. It was the 25-year-old’s first podium finish in the World Cup.

The other Swiss

  • 8. Gino Caviezel +0,77
  • 16. Franjo von Allmen +1.50
  • 18. Justin Murisier +1,81

With Gino Caviezel, a fifth Swiss man also made it into the top 10. The Grisons native, who opened the race, was able to celebrate 8th place after a solid ride. Franjo von Allmen was unlucky. His right stick broke at the start and at the finish he finished 16th, 1.50 seconds behind. Justin Murisier was in 18th position.

This is how it continues

At the end of the 2023/24 Men’s World Cup, the downhill is on the program in Saalbach on Sunday (live from 11:00 a.m. on SRF two and in the SRF Sport app). Here, too, Odermatt starts the race from pole position in the fight for the discipline victory. His lead over Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazzin is 42 points.
